This is the end.....

Well, this is the end for this single blog, since it got incorporated into my sewing blog - nothing got lost and the good news is, that it will be bilingual.

Go over ..... and have a look!

KayB's Knit & Sewing Journal

Tubey-rylics! finished and a photo meme

Oh well, it's almost two month that I posted something, but during term it seems impossible to get anything done - even with the best intentions.
Thanks to Bettina, I would have waited with this post, but for the first time in my blog-life I got tagged!

Okay, this is long overdue, since I finished it ages ago. I'm happy with it, but the neckline I would have preferred to be a little bit wider. By the time I've noticed it I was already so many rows away and really couldn't be asked to frog it all and cast on new again. So I can live with it, and that's all what matters.

Okay, the instructions for the meme are as follows:
*Go to your sixth picture folder and pick your sixth picture.*Pray you remember the details.*Tag five others.

Well, the sixth folder, which also is the last one, is full of family pictures, which I won't post since this is a strictly (well almost) craft blog. The fifth folder is labeled with "extra's" and this is the sixth photo.
I had this project in my head during the summer time to cover all my shoe boxes with lovely wrapping paper and since they all would look the same (okay, they are of various sizes, I admit) I decided to put a picture of my shoes in front of the box.
Sadly, I took the pictures, but never actually started with the covering of the boxes. Even more sad is the fact that I actually never wore this particular pair.
But this meme is a good reminder of actually trying to get this project started.
Thanks Betting for reminding me!

I'm now supposed to tag people, but I'm not quite sure if I have enough readers of this blog left, maybe Tini, Tany (as strange as this name combination sounds - they are not related with each other :-), Karin and Annika might still have a look at it now and then.

Tubey-rylics!

I made some considerable progress with the Tubey-jumper. It's not much left, more or less mindless knitting, but nonetheless enjoyable.

For whatever reason I really love the combination of burgundy and hot pink and since I have loads of it left I'm thinking using it for another project. I'm thinking of an argyle pattern with a burgundy background, hot pink for the diamond and white for the overlaying lines.

The End of SP12!

Today I picked up the third and last package from my SP12 pal. I have an idea who it/she is, but it's still unconfirmed (at the time I'm writing this).
Beside a third, beautiful purple IKEA box it contained a packed of local Yorkshire handmade crisps (already digesting), Fair trade Breakfast Tea, the cutest mini cards and two skeins of autmny-coloured yarn.

On the left side is lace-weight yarn and the right side yarn is local Yorkshire Aran - well, my SP12 pal is from York - that much is correct (I think).

I have to say that I'm really happy having had her as my up-stream partner, for all the packages were an absolute treat for me. She put a lot of thought into the boxes and even though I didn't have the patience up to now to actually make something out of the yarn - all the eatable goodies are long, long gone.
So, thank you very much Knitaholic for it all!

Regarding my downstream-partner: I yet have to send off her last package, but all the goodies are gathered up already, waiting to be packed and shipped. So within the coming days, this will be done.

At last there are plenty of weekly questions to be answered:

If you were told you could never again buy yarn, would would your last yarn purchase be? Well, it wouldn't make me panicky, since I accumulated soooooo much yarn over the summer that, considering the tempo I'm knitting at the moment, it'll last me almost forever.

If you were told you could never knit again, what would be the last thing you’d knit? A massive, massive blanket, which is sooooo huge that it would take me ages to finish.... combining all the stitches and patterns I didn't do yet.

In a given year, how many times do you buy yarn? And what is your favorite place to buy yarn from? A festival? A shop? Online? Dish your favorite places!!
Oh my.... so many questions at once! I'm getting my phases.... sometimes I don't look at yarn in moooooonth... and then I can't get enough. How many times? Hard to answer, maybe twice a year.. but then I really, really buy a lot! Favourite place? Probably the Internet since local sources a really, really restricted. At festivals I really buy rarely, for I find it overloading my senses and I can't decide - ending up buying nothing, which really isn't too bad.
Well, there is no real favourite place - I sample many!

Lastly, with Fall in full swing in many areas, what is the one thing you look forward to most? Finishing one of the jumpers/sweaters I have in my long Ravelry queue!

Okay, that was SP12.
Thanks to all the hostesses for the opportunity and thanks again to Knitaholic, my upstream partner, who looked so beautifully after me.

I won't participate in SP13, for it's too busy a season for me to focus proper attention to this, but maybe next year......

I-Knit 2008 day with the Yarn Harlot

Having been lucky to get a ticket for the Yarn Harlot last Saturday in London I made my way into the city which I last visited two years ago for the European PR meeting.
I always love to go to London and since 'Normality' is finding its way back into my life this was a lovely way to finish off my holidays.
Even in the London Paper, a free news/event paper which one gets unwillingly shoved into ones hand the moment reaching city center I could find an announcement of the I-Knit-Day.

Unfortunately, the weather didn't show itself from its best side and when the time came to change over to the Lindley Hall to see Stephanie Pearl-McPhee was talking, the 'heavens opened up'. I didn't dare to queue until only a few people remained for I was wearing a nice summery dress and flip-flops! Well, to be honest, last time I roamed through London I did serious damage to my poor feet and since it wasn't cold and the sun was even coming through when I left the hotel in the morning I thought flip-flops were a good idea.

Once inside all was well. I even got a quite decent seat and waited with others patiently for the Yarn Harlot.

What followed was 1 hour and 45 min thorough enjoyment. But it didn't stop there for I learned about theta-waves and the positive effects it has on human beings and that all knitters have something in common with Buddhist monks! Well, you never learn out!

Shortly before Stephanie Pearl-McPhee's talk I watched the fashion show from 'A Stitch in Time' from which you can see some impressions here.

Big question: Did I buy anything? I have to admit that I was tempted, but I bought sooooo much yarn this year already and nothing I've seen knocked me out of my socks, so I had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and even saved my credit card.

SP12 second package arrived

Beginning of this week the second package from my Secret Pal arrived. As you can see a lovely piece of fabric in colours I really like, 2 balls of Luisa Harding's 'Kashmir Aran' in purple and white, pins (always needed) and a lovely chorizo sausage directly from France. All in all - perfect and thank you very much, again Knitalholic!

It arrived again in a beautiful amethyst/purple coloured box which I really like since they're not only handy but funky-coloured, too.

I don't dare to look....

...when I updated this blog the last time, and whoever manages to find it, I whole-heartily apologise for it.
But it's not that I'm procrastinating.... I probably sew too much... obviously.

There are several questions to be answered for the SP12. It's not that I didn't knit at all, so I attempt to have a look at all my started projects....

Have you ever entered your knitting (or anything else) in the fair? Would you ever consider it?
Well, I answer that with a clear 'NO'! I'm very fussy and even though I would be quite ok entering my sewed/stitched cloth in a fair, I never would do it with my knitted stuff, well, maybe for a scarf or sock.....

What Olympic event would best describe you knitting/knitting style?
This is actually quite a hard question to answer. I'm not for multiple disciplines, even though lately I started several objects - usually I'm a 'one-project-kind-of-girl', but I'm not a runner or jumper, therefore anything with speed or height wouldn't be appropriate - frankly I probably wouldn't even qualify to participate in the Olympiad.

What is the best thing you've ever received in the mail/post?
Best things change with time, but the best thing for the last few years was the acceptance letter to university as a mature student. That really made me jump for joy.

So, with all the question out of the way, what projects are actually on my needles:

I made some progress with the Corsica jumper, the lower part is almost finished and I take up stitches for the front and back of the body. Still a long way to go.

'Wicked' I finished last year and was wearing it quite often, but I still found it very short. So much so that I now got another skein and added on some more length, thanks to top-down designs.
It's almost finished and then I have to block it again, just to see if I get the crimped section smooth again.

Last but not least I started with 'Tubey' and I'm now at the first sleeve started with the second colour. This is a mindless knit, since it's only stitches and I only have to pay some attention to the change of colour.
By the way, this is entirely knit with acrylic yarn and it's actually not bad.

SP12 and the Question for Week 8

What is your favorite supper for a hot summer evening?

All kinds of salads.... pasta or vegetables or seafood or meat - actually everything as long it's cool. Not so much fruit salads for supper..... but I love them as breakfast.

SP12 and the Question for Week 7

What is(are) your favorite place(s) to knit?
It's still on my couch with something on the telli which doesn't need a lot of attention or a movie, preferebly one I've seen before otherwise I'm getting too distracted since I can't knit 'blind'.

What supplies (besides yarn & needles) make the setting perfect for knitting?
Well, I'm a mug-of-tea-two-sugars-and-milk kinda girl - and a Jane Austen movie, so this would be a perfect setting.

Back-to-School Vest No.1

This is a very thick vest, due to the Aran style acrylic I used (mixed with some sock yarn). But libraries usually are kept quite cool and I often find myself freezing, especially during the winter. It's all right, because otherwise everybody would fall asleep and therefore I decided to make some thick warm garments.
This is one of them.
I actually have some more vest in my Ravelry queue, so there definitely will be more of those coming.
